We didn’t update the packaging—we burned it.
CHALLENGE: IHow do you relaunch the Cheetos Flamin’ Hot portfolio when packaging updates are usually ignored?
INSIGHT: Flamin’ Hot fans don’t want change—they want reassurance that what they love hasn’t.
IDEA: Don’t quietly update the packaging—make the change impossible to ignore. We “retired” the old look the only way Flamin’ Hot would: by setting it on fire.
EXECUTION: We staged the retirement as a live social spectacle—burning legacy packaging from Cheetos, Fritos, Funyuns, and Doritos through a series of Rube Goldberg–style chain reactions, executed by professional fire experts.
The burns culminated in “Firestream”—a two-hour live event on TikTok hosted by James Henry, where viewers watched in real time as the old packaging went up in flames and the new look was revealed. The stream blended spectacle with participation—featuring live reactions, trivia, interviews, and giveaways that kept audiences engaged throughout.
